It’s my first pregnancy after having complications and an unsuccessful past. This first trimester is rough! I keep hearing second trimester will get better and I’m trying to stay positive. I’m currently working 32 hours now and it’s a struggle most days. (My job is in health care and it’s repetitive labour on the body )
I Havnt enjoyed any part of this pregnancy and I’m too emotional to plan or be excited for anything (revealing we are pregnant, gender reveal, baby shower or setting up a nursery) I live in Canada and we have extended mat leave options and I’m reading we can start it 17 weeks prior to our due date.
Everywhere I read, people are starting their mat leave 1-3weeks prior to their due date.
I wanna stop working at 24 weeks and take time to hopefully enjoy pregnancy and prepare. But feeling guilty as that doesn’t seem the norm.
Anyone else, just over working and trying to through the days “business as usual”.

6W4D and working 45-50 hours a week… not ready to tell anyone yet and it has been extremely hard trying to act normal when in reality I’m going through it you and baby take priority over work so take all the time you need to ensure you’re both healthy physically and mentally:)

I can 1000% relate to being over working and pretending everything is fine! I work from home but I've been so so sick (lost 20 lbs in 3 wks, couldn't keep food down, vomiting 5x/day, extreme fatigue). I've considered taking a leave of absence many times but at this point I'm 12w and I'm so close to the second trimester when hopefully things improve. I can't imagine working in-person right now with how sick and fatigued I am. I would definitely explore that extended mat leave if I were you! I work with a lot of Canadian folks and many take a year off for mat leave

@cristina-1992,
my nausea is extremely my doctor just put me on diclectin I don’t think it’s fully working yet I’m dehydrated and exhausted beyond belief. I have no energy to take care of myself let alone others and I honestly feel like I’m giving 100% of what I can at work but it’s really like 40% output. I’m in week 10 so I keep thinking couple more weeks.. but honestly even if I start feeling better I don’t want to work at all. So emotional about this process ☹️. I hope you start feeling better soon ♥️

If I had the chance I would’ve loved to take off early. I worked up until the day before I was induced at 39+3. My leave was totally unpaid so I needed to make sure I didn’t take unpaid time off while just sitting at home. I wanted to save all my time for being with my baby. If you have paid maternity leave or can swing it financially to take unpaid time off before baby, then I say go for it.
